About CEL-SCI Corporation

CEL-SCI believes that boosting a patient’s immune system while it is still intact should provide the greatest possible impact on survival. Therefore, in the Phase 3 study CEL-SCI treated patients who are newly diagnosed with advanced primary squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck with the investigational product Multikine* first, BEFORE they received surgery, radiation and/or chemotherapy. This approach is unique. Most other cancer immunotherapies are administered only after conventional therapies have been tried and/or failed. Multikine (Leukocyte Interleukin, Injection), has received Orphan Drug designation from the FDA for neoadjuvant therapy in patients with squamous cell carcinoma (cancer) of the head and neck.

CEL-SCI believes that this Phase 3 study is the largest Phase 3 study in the world for the treatment of head and neck cancer. Per the study’s protocol, newly diagnosed patients with advanced primary squamous cell carcinoma of the head and neck were treated with the Multikine treatment regimen first – for 3 weeks prior to receiving the Standard of Care (SOC), which involves surgery, radiation or concurrent radiochemotherapy. Multikine is designed to help the immune system “see” the tumor at a time when the immune system is still relatively intact and thereby thought to better be able to mount an attack on the tumor. The aim of treatment with Multikine is to boost the body’s immune system prior to SOC to attack the cancer. The Phase 3 study is fully enrolled with 928 patients and the last patient was treated in September 2016. To prove an overall survival benefit, the study requires CEL-SCI to wait until 298 events have occurred among the two main comparator groups. This study milestone occurred in late April 2020. The study is currently in the database lock and analysis phase.

It’s time to reopen health clubs and gyms

In summary

When it comes to concerns about COVID-19 in health clubs, initial research suggests these are far outweighed by the benefits of physical activity.

It’s time for California to take a fresh look at the steps needed to keep people healthy.

We all know of the terrible toll of COVID-19, and health officials have been vigilant in ordering steps to reduce its spread. But the effects of the pandemic – just as surely as the virus itself – are also taking a toll.

Sorrento's Covid-19 Test, Acquisitions Should Greatly Boost SRNE Stock

Sorrento’s Covid-19 Test, Acquisitions Should Greatly Boost SRNE Stock

  • August 31, 2020

Sorrento (NASDAQ:SRNE) should continue to climb in the very likely case the company’s superior coronavirus test is approved and then becomes widely used in the U.S. and potentially around the world. And SRNE stock appears poised to improve its longer-term outlook through acquisitions.

a number of test tubes and capsules are pictured under a cool blue light

Source: Shutterstock

In a previous column, I noted that Sorrento’s coronavirus test, unlike competing diagnostics, yields results in just 30 minutes, does not require lab equipment and doesn’t have to be sent to labs. As a result, it, unlike other tests, could be used by hospitals, stadiums, hotels, office buildings and other organizations to allow people to safely enter their facilities on the same day that the test is taken.

Further, a Seeking Alpha columnist recently pointed out that, because Sorrento’s test does not need to be sent to a lab, it could be much cheaper than competing diagnostics. According to the columnist, labs usually charge at least $80 per test that they evaluate, while Sorrento has said that its test “might cost only $10.”

A recent test made by Abbott (NYSE:ABT) and approved by the FDA reportedly yields results in 15 minutes, costs only $5, and does not require lab equipment. But it requires an uncomfortable nasal swab and must be administered by a health professional. Businesses and other organizations will likely be able to use Sorrento’s test without hiring expensive health professionals; with Abbott’s test, that will not be the case.

A Promising Acquisition and a Good Overall Strategy

On Aug. 26, Sorrento announced that it had agreed to merge with start-up biotech company SmartPharm in exchange for $19.4 million of SRNE stock.

SmartPharm “seeks to insert nucleic acids (mRNA or DNA) into cells to make normal versions of a missing or abnormal program or to produce an entirely new type of protein that has therapeutic benefit.”

According to the company, its system prompts human bodies to make desirable proteins, eliminating the need for scientists to develop and inject such proteins. SmartPharm adds that its system is superior to more prevalent “Viral-vectored gene therapies” because it’s less expensive and, unlike viruses, does not prompt a response by the immune system.

Sorrento reported that it was able to use SmartPharm’s system, in conjunction with Sorrento’s STI-1499 antibody, to develop “an antibody encoded DNA plasmid candidate” which “has the potential to generate long-lasting anti-viral protection with a single intra-muscular administration.” Sorrento has said that STI-1499 “demonstrated (a) 100% neutralizing effect” of Covid-19 in lab tests and stopped the virus from entering healthy cells in tests in animals.

So it sounds like SmartPharm’s technology may cause cells to produce antibodies for a long period of time after just a single injection.

Of course, such technology could very well be used to treat many illnesses, not just Covid-19.

Indeed, Sorrento stated that SmartPharm’s technology is “expected to provide a vast product pipeline of novel, long-acting therapeutic proteins for a broad range of diseases, including cancer.”

SmartPharm’s technology certainly sounds very promising. And the fact that SmartPharm agreed to merge with Sorrento in exchange for SRNE stock, without any cash considerations, certainly indicates that SmartPharm is upbeat on its own prospects and those of Sorrento. That’s very encouraging news for the owners of Sorrento stock.

Finally, as I indicated earlier, I’m pleased that Sorrento appears to be intent on using the cash it’s generating to improve its longer-term prospects. Ultimately I believe that Sorrento will use much of its profits from its test for the coronavirus test to make other high-potential acquisitions, thereby greatly improving the outlook of its stock.

The Bottom Line on SRNE Stock

I believe that Sorrento will ultimately make a great deal of money from its test for the coronavirus, and I’m very encouraged by its merger with SmartPharm. I’m also very pleased by the company’s strategy of using its cash to make promising acquisitions, and I believe that this approach will boost the valuation of SRNE stock over the medium-term to long-term.

Given the huge potential of Sorrento and the fact that its market capitalization is only $2 billion at this point, I continue to advise risk-tolerant investors to buy the shares.

As of this writing, the author owned shares of SRNE stock.

COVID-19 Fuels Growth in Organic Food Options | Modern Restaurant Management

COVID-19 Fuels Growth in Organic Food Options | Modern Restaurant Management

  • August 31, 2020

COVID-19 has indelibly changed every aspect of our lives. Its influence has created challenges, restructured social settings, and redefined meanings of common words and phrases. The terms “organic” and “clean,” for example, have a new, heightened relevance with consumers in a post-COVID-19 environment with their hyper-focus on strengthening immune systems and preparing bodies for any potential interaction with the virus. This has dramatically impacted the core of the food and restaurant industries, specifically healthy and organic food.  And the numbers are impressive.

Eating organic is by no means a new concept brought on by the pandemic, but the shift in mindsets has thrust this niche food sector into overdrive.

As consumers seek clean products without chemicals or human-made modifications to put in their bodies, they are taking more notice of organic ingredients to boost their health and wellness.  And it doesn’t just stop there; they’re also looking at how clean the restaurant and its employees are in delivering and preparing the product.

Consumers ask, “Can I trust this establishment, can I trust the food they are offering me, can I trust that the staff is adhering to health and safety protocols.” One of the more burning questions is, “How will eating organic make me feel, and will it help me fight the virus?”

Eating organic is by no means a new concept brought on by the pandemic, but the shift in mindsets has thrust this niche food sector into overdrive. To be clear, eating organic will not kill the virus or make you immune. Still, it is well-documented that eating clean, nutrient-dense foods without foreign chemicals like preservatives or pesticides has beneficial long-term effects on the mind, body, and overall well-being. The stronger your body and immune system, the better off you are against a litany of concerning health issues.

The Organic Food Boom

Unequivocally, the organic food industry has been growing steadily over the past decade. In 2010 the organic food sector reached $5B. According to the Organic Trade Association, organic food products accounted for 90 percent of a $55B organic product industry in 2019. COVID-19 just seemed to pour fuel on those growth numbers, and 2020 is on track to exponentially surpass last year’s records.

Organic produce consumption is up also up double digits. Industry reports show that in March, April, and May of 2020, organic produce trended upward as consumers adopted an inherent understanding that organic foods offer exponential health benefits.  As an offset of COVID-19, consumers are focusing on food choices as a way to fight COVID-19 and other health issues associated with poor diets. What we’ve learned from health and infectious disease experts is that COVID-19 is more detrimental to people with underlying health issues, many of these associated with poor diets. Diabetes, morbid obesity and heart disease are few among many. The fear caused by COVID-19 has altered the mindset of many people who are now taking a more substantial, proactive approach to their health versus waiting until they get sick to eat better.

An Industry Microcosm

The Clean Juice brand is on the same growth trajectory as the organic food industry and is a demonstrative microcosm of organic food industry interest, demand, and absorption. Despite COVID-19 and the dramatic impact on the QSR/Fast Casual restaurant space, Clean Juice experienced something slightly different and more in line with what was happening in the organic food industry as a whole – a surge in interest and growth.

In the first three months of the pandemic (March, April, and May), we reported negative sales due to the uncertainty of the virus’ contagion power. However, in June, our stores bounced back to double-digit same-store sales growth even amid the pandemic. I believe this was driven not only by our core customer base and reputation but by many others looking for clean, healthy food options across multiple channels, including Third Party delivery partners.

Organic Best Practices

If you are considering adding organic or looking to buy into an organic-certified concept, there are a few critical areas to consider. Note to yourself; it will be challenging at first. Sourcing organic produce and ingredients will be difficult, especially if you are seeking an all-organic concept. Though certified organic farms have increased 56 percent from 2011, this still only makes up less than one percent of total acres of American farmland, according to Pew Research Center.  In the early days of Clean Juice, we did not have USDA-certified organic purchasing power established. Our staff was running to organic grocers to supplement our inventory to keep up with the demand. As Clean Juice grew and earned its USDA-certified label, we were better positioned to work with national suppliers and distributors of USDA-certified products to get the quality and quantity needed to meet demand and stay true to the Clean Juice vision.

If you are looking to buy into a franchise that focuses on USDA-certified organic, make sure the franchise offers a reliable supply chain and distribution platform so that you are not forced to fend for yourself while securing the ingredients needed for your menu. Ask the franchisor, “What is your supply chain process? Who are the vendors? Are there shortages? What contingency plans are available?” You must research and vet each touchpoint in the supply chain to ensure consistent availability and quality of the products you are offering consumers.

Getting a USDA-certified stamp of approval is not an easy process, but a significant differentiator in the restaurant industry. It is essential to understand that it is not as simple as filling out an application. It takes over a year of following and reporting on strict guidelines set forth by the USDA. Everything must be verified and reported from what ingredients you source, where you source it from, and how it is handled and stored. There is a sophisticated auditing and reporting system that must be followed with the strictest discipline. For restaurant owners wanting to add organic offerings into their menus (without the USDA validation), the process is a bit easier and a good first step. Once you can add organic, then you can decide whether you want to pursue the USDA certification.

Stay True to The Mission

Deciding to go organic – whether full throttle or as an added food offering – can be the right decision. Remember to stay the course and always stick to serving your customers in the best way possible. Your restaurant is an extension of somebody’s kitchen and is responsible for family meals, birthday celebrations, and the centerpiece of many other life events. People gather around food, more specifically, the food you prepare and offer.

Keeping a clean, sanitized restaurant, even for take-out or delivery– will go a long way in staying afloat during these unprecedented times. Lastly, thinking about the mindset of your customers is always the right path to follow. With many people, if not most, looking for proactive ways to stay healthy and protect themselves from illness, offering clean, fresh, organic foods not only provides another layer of variety but demonstrates your brand’s commitment to supporting healthy individuals, families, and communities.

Eye Health presents a white space opportunity for VMS players

  • August 31, 2020

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], Aug 31 (ANI/BusinessWire India): Endless hours spent in front of screens, intensified by COVID 19, is opening up a white space opportunity for VMS players in India, according to the latest research from Mintel.

While three in ten Indian VMS users have taken mineral supplements such as calcium, iron, zinc (30 per cent) and multivitamins (28 per cent); eye health and beauty are high on the nation’s agenda.

Over the last 12 months over a quarter of Indian VMS users have taken hair/skin/nails supplements (27 per cent) and eye health supplements (26 per cent), making usage higher than that of bone/joint health (22 per cent) and prebiotics/probiotics (19 per cent).

It is the nation’s self prescribers who are driving usage of eye health supplements in particular. Almost four in ten (38 per cent) self prescribers have taken an eye health supplement, making it the most popular supplement taken by this group.

RimpieTulsiani, Mintel Senior Beauty and Personal care Analyst, India, said:”Consumers are now seeking lifestyle solutions, and are proactively consuming VMS related to preventative health. Awareness has also grown of the issues of stress or blue light damage, and as a result, penetration rates for beauty and eye health VMS are higher than for bone or digestive health. Additionally, urban lifestyles have led consumers to spend most of their time in front of screens, leading to health concerns due to exposure to blue light as well. This focus on blue light protection will intensify during the COVID period, as screen time typically increases while working from home. Furthermore, promoting the concept of beauty ‘inside out and outside in’ will help appeal to consumers who aspire for beautiful skin or hair. There is an opportunity to develop combination products that can be ingested as well as applied on the skin.”India leads the way in NPDMintel Global New Products Database highlights that India is responsible for one in five (19 per cent) VMS launches in APAC, compared to the next highest countries: Korea (17 per cent), Australia and Japan (11 per cent). Despite India being an APAC innovation leader, just 37 per cent of Indians use VMS.

However, according to Mintel’s latest COVID-19 research, 58 per cent of Indians expect to spend more on healthcare products in the next month than before–highlighting strong category potential for the VMS sector.

“While the VMS consumption in India pre-COVID-19 was low, the pandemic has educated consumers that diet alone is not enough to maintain their health and as such, they are looking for specific ways to boost their immune system. Indian consumers are expecting to spend more on health care in the next month than before, these consist of not just masks and sanitisers but also traditional immunity boosters like Chyawanprash and other herbal health supplements. Healthier lifestyles are now becoming a priority and the consumption of VMS is skewing towards holistic and preventive health,” adds RimpiePalatability and easy to digest key to VMS successMintel research reveals that Indian consumers would be interested in VMS products that are palatable (40 per cent) and easy to digest (40 per cent). Mintel research, using the Total Unduplicated ResearchFrequency (TURF) methodology^ reveals that VMS products which are palatable and include natural/botanical ingredients as well Ayurvedic ingredients appeal to 85 per cent of Indian consumersTURF analysis identifies the mix of features, attributes, or messages that will attract the largest number of unique respondents. By identifying the Total Unduplicated Reach, it is possible to maximise the number of people who find one or more of their preferred features or attributes in the product line. The resulting output from TURF is additive, with each additional feature increasing total reach by incremental amounts.

Back to School: Boosting your children's immune systems

Back to School: Boosting your children’s immune systems

  • August 31, 2020

It’s that time of year again when all the parents are busy getting ready for back to school, but this year in the midst of the Covid-19 pandemic is a very different “getting ready”. Previous years the biggest concerns may have been getting all the books covered, uniforms sorted and of course the back to school haircut!

This year is a whole different ball game and unfortunately we have a lot more to worry about as the children head back to the classroom. The schools will of course do a great job protecting the children as best they can, but how can you help them at home?.

One of the biggest worries for parents is the children catching the common cold or flu, which was previously sorted with good old Calpol and cuddles!! Now every sniffle is going to result in more time off school and more worry for parents, as when you have a cold the immune system slows down, which of course is the big worry right now and with the cold damp weather and the dark evenings just around the corner, we know the cough’s and colds are never far away!

When the temperature drops, the chance of coming down with a cold or the flu increases significantly. That’s because you’re likely to be inside more and the common cold thrives better in dry air than where there’s humidity. And, when you spend more time indoors, you’re exposed to more germs.

The flu virus is also transmitted much faster when it’s cold out because the lipid (fatty) coating of the virus becomes more resilient the colder it gets.
Your immune system is the most powerful weapon you have against disease. Strong immunity means that the body is better able to fight off viruses and germs. Read on for my tips for maintaining a strong immune system throughout the school year!

Your body needs real, unprocessed food to stay healthy, so do not be fooled by all the clever marketing that is used on many of the products that we see on the supermarket shelf.
Instead focus on eating natural, unprocessed food as often as possible. Follow the 80/20 rule (this means eating healthily 80 of the time) – think fresh fruit rather than fruit juice, or wholegrain bread instead of a white bread.

A diet high in fruits and vegetables is essential for optimum immune health. Look for foods high in Vitamins C, D, and E, as well as beta-carotene, a form of Vitamin A, as these are key for a healthy immune system. Some foods that boost the immune system are: fruits, such as grapefruit, oranges, clementines, papaya, kiwi, lemons, and tangerines, vegetables high in Vitamin C, like spinach, red bell pepper, and broccoli,

Garlic which has antiviral, antibacterial, and antifungal properties, and is known to boost the immune system, thanks to the sulfur-containing compound, allicin. Of course I don’t expect the children will be open to munching on raw garlic, but there are many ways to get it into the diet as it can be added to sauces, soups, stews, curries etc.

Full fat live yogurt, which contains active cultures and Vitamin D that help support the immune system is ideal to add to smoothies for an immune boosting breakfast or after school snack.

Up to 80% of our immune system is in the gut. The mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT) in the gut is part of the first line of immune defence, so getting the right balance between beneficial, or ‘good’ gut bacteria, and the ‘bad’, or potentially pathogenic bacteria, is key.

How to do this:
The gut environment takes a beating year after year, owing to poor diets, too much sugar, stress, antibiotics and other factors. Even if you have no obvious tummy troubles, digestive health is vital, so it’s worth the extra effort to take care of it.
Add probiotic and prebiotic foods to your diet, as these re-populate the gut with good bacteria and feed them well enough to crowd out bad bacteria.

Here are some gut-friendly choices to get you started:
Organic, probiotic, natural yoghurt
Miso soup or miso bouillon paste (add these to soups and stews)
Oats (soak first, as you would to make overnight oats, in order to release the goodness)
Onions, garlic and Jerusalem artichokes
Fermented foods such as kefir can be easily added to smoothies
Foods high in fibre such as beans and lentils which are easily added to soups and stews.
Cooked, then cooled potatoes as these are high in resistant starch which acts as a fertilizer to the good gut bacteria.

Did you hear that chicken soup is great when you’re unwell? If you thought it was just an old wives’ tale, you’d be wrong. Research suggests that a bowl of chicken and vegetable soup can slow the speed at which neutrophils move around your body. Neutrophils are a type of white blood cell and part of the immune system, protecting your body from infection. When the neutrophils move slowly, there’s a greater chance of them becoming more concentrated in the areas of your body that need the most healing. Studies have shown chicken soup to be particularly helpful in reducing symptoms in upper respiratory system infections like the common cold.

After all the treats over the summer, it’s now time to start reducing the amount of sugar the kids (and the parents) have been enjoying!
Sugar fans the flames of inflammation and affects the ability of white blood cells to fend off viruses and bacteria. In fact, the immune system stays depressed for hours after consuming sugar, according to recent studies. There is no better time to clear out the “goodies press”

Encourage the children to make water their drink of choice. Water is a miracle worker. It flushes germs from your system, helps your blood to carry plenty of oxygen to your body’s cells and allows those cells to absorb important nutrients. If you struggle to get water into yourself or your children, try infusing it with slices of lemon, lime, oranges and some mint leaves.

As difficult as this is to achieve in winter, spending sufficient time in sunlight is a vital immune booster.
Vitamin D is made by your skin absorbing sunlight, so spending time outdoors with the children will benefit the whole family. Supplement vitamin D levels by eating more of the following foods: oily fish (salmon, mackerel and fresh tuna), beef liver, mushrooms, cheese, egg yolks and vitamin D-fortified foods, such as dairy products and orange juice. There are also some great vitamin D supplements on the market that the whole family could benefit from.

An age-old way to boost immunity is by following childhood rules – wash hands, go to bed early and take some exercise.
These simple measures may seem boring (and more difficult to achieve than popping a pill), but science proves that they work.
And your immune system will thank you for it.

Not getting enough sleep can lead to health issues, such as memory problems and depression, but it can also lead to a weakened immune system. Lack of sleep is correlated with higher levels of cortisol, the body’s stress hormone. Stress is known to suppress the immune system. Studies have shown that less than 5 hours of sleep negatively affects the immune system, and that 7 to 9 hours of sleep is ideal for adults, and 9 to 11 hours of sleep is ideal for school-age children.
Regular, moderate exercise boosts the cells responsible for attacking bacteria. These cells also appear to work faster in those who exercise, which better equips your immune system against viruses and infections. However, be aware that immune response may dip for several hours after intense exercise. A 30-minute brisk walk is a great activity to improve your immune system, so stick on the wet gear if you need to and get the kiddies out running around!

Food should always be the first choice; however, supplements do have their place especially if you have fussy eaters. Top of the list for immunity are a good probiotic, a multivitamin, vitamin C & D and zinc.
For most people, a daily probiotic will help maintain the right balance of bacteria in the gut.
A multivitamin bridges the gap between what you are eating and what you should be eating, and takes care of any major deficiencies.

Go large when it comes to vitamin C, both in food and supplement form. Broccoli and red peppers contain more C than oranges (contrary to popular belief) and there are loads of other foodie options, too: kale, cauliflower, parsley, spinach, strawberries, Brussels sprouts, blackcurrants, kiwi fruit, pineapple, mango, papaya and citrus fruits.

Top up zinc levels by eating more palm-sized pieces of lean meat (especially lamb, beef, venison and turkey), pumpkin seeds, ginger root, green veggies, oats, nuts, sesame seeds, yoghurt and scallops.

Here’s a unique way to increase your immunity during this global pandemic

Here’s a unique way to increase your immunity during this global pandemic

  • August 31, 2020
The pandemic has made the world realise the importance of water in breaking the circuit of coronavirus transmission. Hand washing and personal hygiene practices have emerged as essential actions, as crucial as social distancing and lockdowns in the absence of a solution or vaccine for Covid19. However, according to the United Nations and health practitioners around the world, it is also very essential to build a strong immunity if humans want to win this battle against a deadly virus.

Addressing the concern of low immunity among Indians, the Ministry of Ayush has laid down immunity-boosting measures for self-care during these times. It includes drinking herbal tea or a glass of hot milk with turmeric once or twice a day. One of the critical measures to follow is drinking warm water throughout the day, and practising Yogasana, Pranayama and meditation for at least 30 minutes daily.

Now, you would agree that when it comes to boosting immunity, most of us head to the supermarkets to buy easy options. For instance, superfoods promising incredible health results are attractive prospects. However, market gimmicks often merely lead to disappointment. More importantly, we ignore the basic and the most crucial part of our daily existence which is – Natural alkaline water with a pH of 8 and above.

Even today, majority of Indian households seem to be satisfied with a simple reverse osmosis water purifier, which reduces minerals in the water, lowers pH rendering it acidic, and makes it taste bitter and unfit for drinking. If you haven’t upgraded and are looking for foolproof ways to safeguard yourself and your loved ones against any kind of viruses going forward, a Korean brand, Cuckoo, might just have the best solution for you! This company is looking to make a huge difference in boosting the collective immunity of the Indian community amid these trying times of a life-threatening global pandemic, thanks to its path-breaking technological innovation of Water Healthifiers.

As the name suggests,
Cuckoo’s Water Healthifiers go beyond just filtering impurities to boosting our immunity as well as providing the healthiest water through an advanced five-stage purification process. If this has surprised you, here’s more about how Cuckoo’s Water Healthifiers function to insure your health against viruses or bacterias better than anything else available in the market today:

Mineral-rich Alkaline Water

With a minimalist and stylish design suitable for homes and the workplace, Cuckoo’s Water Healthifiers come power-packed with an advanced NANO/ RO Membrane which removes heavy metals, bacteria & viruses, water-borne microorganisms and harmful substances from the water. It then enriches the water with minerals and increases its alkaline level, which goes a long way in strengthening your immune system. These Healthifiers
eradicate 99.9% bacteria and viruses, ensuring that your water retains its nutritional qualities and refreshing taste! Furthermore, its antibacterial stainless steel water tank prevents the growth of germs and bacteria from guaranteeing water remains fresh and healthy after storage in the tank.

World’s 1st In & Out Sterilization Technology

While purifiers are meant to deliver 100% clean and pure water, untreated water passing through the tube can leave behind unwanted and harmful particles which defeat the very purpose of what these devices intend on achieving. The faucet is at the risk of accumulating germs in the process. Cuckoo’s Water Healthifiers, however, address this concern with its world’s 1st In & Out Sterilization technology. This technology helps both the detachable faucet, as well as the water tube, get sparkly clean with only the click of a button. Cuckoo is the first and the only brand in the world to introduce this technology in its bid to be committed to providing the most healthy and purest and cleanest form of water to its customers.

Hot & Cold models

Regular usage of hot water has been recommended by the Ministry of Ayush and the government as a step towards keeping the coronavirus at bay. At this time, Cuckoo’s Healthifiers come handy as they are not just energy-saving but have three variants – Hot, Cold & Ambient, which also makes them the perfect technology to use in any season.

In the hot setting, water is heated up to 80-90 degrees Celsius, while in the cold setting, it’s chilled up to 3-7 Degree Celsius. There is also a very thoughtful child lock safety feature to keep children in homes safe.

Seven-stage filtration process

Cuckoo has a transparent 7-stage advanced process of filtration. Starting with the Pre-Sediment filter, it focuses on extending the life cycle of every other filter. The Sediment filter, meanwhile, does away with impurities like rust, deposits, particles and sand. There’s a pre-Carbon filter that helps in primary absorption of odours, colour, organic substances, VOCs (free chlorine, chloroform), Trihalomethane, etc.

One of the most crucial components in the healthifiers is the Alkali Mineralizer. It removes contaminants and impurities using chemical absorption, enhances the taste of water and mineralises water by enhancing minerals like Sodium, Magnesium, Calcium & Potassium. It also balances pH value and makes water mild alkaline that strengthens your immunity. Equally important is the RO Filter that operates as per the TDS levels of a particular region. This critical component removes all the heavy metals, E.Coli virus and other harmful substances through water pressure while letting all essential minerals pass through.

What’s more?!

Cuckoo wanted to minimise water wastage, especially in high TDS regions. An important fact to know here is that an RO purifier dumps 3-4 litres of wastewater for every litre of potable water. Cuckoo, on the other hand, decided to devise its Water Healthifiers in a way that it could also help save water, considering it as a part of their social responsibility towards the environment.

It is evident, therefore, that Cuckoo has made a significant technological innovation in the water purification process in India. The brand has also taken the responsibility of minimising damage to public health and guaranteeing healthy lives across communities – by providing the healthiest and purest and cleanest form of water and boosting immunity – amid the worst pandemic the world has seen! So, get your
Cuckoo Water Healthifier today because precautions are always better than cure.

Shortage of dietary supplements in Kol | Kolkata News

  • August 30, 2020

Kolkata: Shortage of dietary supplements like vitamins, especially those fortified with zinc that are being touted as anti-Covid, has hit the city markets again. Shops across the city have zero stock of multivitamins while others are rationing the number of strips sold to individuals.
“There is a huge gap between demand and supply and that is worrying. Last week, a company had sent 1 lakh strips of multivitamins for Kolkata and the entire stock got exhausted in a few days,” said Sajal Ganguly, general secretary of Bengal Chemists and Druggists’ association. “We are raising the issue with the manufacturers, but it will take time for the new shipment to arrive,” he added.
The shortage has hit even the large retailers like Frank Ross Pharmacy. “Consumption has increased by 10 times while the supply has not been stepped up to cater to such rise in demand. There is a huge shortage, especially multivitamins with zinc,” said Gautam Jatia, chief executive official of Frank Ross.
The trouble started since lockdown following a scramble to buy the drugs found to boost immune system. The pharmacies tried to salvage the situation by getting hold of lesser known brands of these medicines and dietary supplements to cater to the growing demand.
Prasanta Pal, a retailer in Mall Road, Dum Dum, said he has not got any stock for the multivitamins, vitamin C or zinc supplements. “We have been facing shortages earlier as well. This time, it is acute and we are rationing the number of medicines being sold to individuals,” he said.
“The shortage can be witnessed at the wholesale points as well,” said Somnath Ghosh of Metro Pharma. “We are distributors for certain brands of multivitamins with Zinc. As of now, there is zero stock in our own outlets,” he added. Pharmacies that have procured Vitamins A, B complex with folic acid, C, D3 and zinc supplements last week have no stocks left now. Pinaki Dey, consultant physician with the ILS Hospital feels that having vitamins or dietary supplement for two to three weeks is not a problem. “But if anyone is planning to have vitamins for a long period, s/he should consult a doctor. Studies have shown that Low Vitamin D level can aggravate Covid-19 conditions. On the other hand, there is no study that conclusively shows efficacy of vitamins in boosting the immunity system.”
